OVERVIEW

This adventure combines an ocean passage from Mallorca to Sardinia plus a coastal cruise along the magnificent Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena Archipelago, plus a stop at one of Europe’s most famous Kiteboard destinations.

Mallorca and Sardinia are two of the most naturally beautiful islands and offer some of the best sailing and cruising in the Mediterranean.  Fall is a perfect time to experience the best of these islands, while avoiding the crowds.

According to CN Traveller   “the Maddalena Archipelago is a quiet place of turquoise lagoons, deserted islands and the most heavenly beaches in Sardinia”..

(Schedule is weather dependent)
SCHEDULE

Day 1

Joining Day

Arrival times in Palma de Mallorca: 12:00 to 23:00 hours. Unpack your bags, relax, meet your fellow crew members, learn your way around the boat.

Day 2

Briefings & Training

Make our way around to the cool harbor at Port de Soller –anchor there then discuss passage planning.

If the wind dictates that we leave Mallorca to Port for our passage to Sardinia, then we sail around the South side of Mallorca to either the beautiful S’Amarador or Portocolom.

Day 3 & 4

Passage Mallorca to Sardinia

Mallorca to Porto Cervo @ 348 nm   1.5 to 2 day passage, wind/weather dependent. We’ll raise sails, set the watches and make our sail past Menorca and across the Sea of Sardinia (Mar di Sardegna), through the Bonifacio Strait between Corsica and Sardinia, and around to our port of entry--Porto Cervo.

Porto Cervo

World Famous Porto Cervo is a village on the Costa Smeralda built by the Prince Karim Aga Khan in the 60s, and is a recognized international sailing center.

Porto Cervo Harbor

We’ll spend the night in Porto Cervo, where you can go ashore and visit the Piazzetta di Porto Cervo (The Little Square of Porto Cervo). This square is the heart of Costa Smeralda, especially pleasant to enjoy a drink in one of the outdoor cafes.

Day 5

Maddalena

A short cruise up the coast to The Maddalena Islands

(possible option – sail across to Bonifacio on the French island of Corsica)

Bonafacio

Day 6

Porto Pollo

On the Northern Coast of Sardinia--one of the World’s Best Kitesurfing locations!

Porto Pollo-Sardinia

From Kite and Windsurfing Guide:

“Discovered in the late ’70s, this place on the northern tip of Costa Smeralda soon became one of Europe’s most popular freeride venues. Two large bays are divided by a narrow sandspit – onshore winds and chop on one side, mirror-flat water on the other, and the spit doesn’t interfere with the wind either. The Strait of Bonifacio forms a perfect wind-tunnel with amazing wind stats. All westerly and easterlies get strengthened, and Porto Pollo offers a suitable launch for every direction.”

Pro Center Logo

Here accomplished kite boarders can launch their kites and have a ball, and those that would like to try Kiteboarding can set-up lessons with a local instructor, as there is an excellent Kite pro center at Porto Pollo.  Windsurfers can also partake as the Western side is dedicated to this sport.

Day 7

Spend the morning in Porto Pollo

Sail around the Maddalena Islands and back around for our final night at Porto Cervo.

Maddalena Lagoon

Day 8

Departure Day

It’s been an amazing trip—an overnight ocean passage and cruising Costa Smeralda. But now it’s time to put the ship back in shape, do our debriefings, and say goodbyes, until the next time.
