DIEGO DELSO

LEG 7 GUEST INSTRUCTOR

Although born in Spain, Diego considers himself a world citizen, after having discovered more than 70 countries through his photography. As an amateur, he has made quite a name for himself as a free-license photographer on Wikimedia Commons with over 560 “featured” photographs — a quality level that only the top 0.023% of all images on the site have attained and almost 13,000 “quality” images — which must meet a different set of technical criteria and be taken by an editor on Commons.

“I only participate in free-license contests, and mainly those organized by the Wikimedia movement, which are surely the biggest ones. In fact, Wiki Loves Monuments is the biggest photo contest ever” (http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/largest-photography-competition/) Proud of his achievements, he has won many awards, most notably, voted 5th place by the worldwide photography community for his image of Seljalandsfoss waterfall, in Suðurland, Iceland in the Wikimedia Commons 2016 Picture of the Year contest.

As if that weren’t enough, he also won 11th place in the same contest with this photo:

And let’s not forget, ranking quite well in the Wiki Loves Monuments contest 4 years running.

Diego loves taking pictures, but his passion is getting other people enthusiastic about photography. “It is important to me that travel through photography be available to all, for free. I post my photos on Wikimedia Commons so that the world can see these places and enjoy these images, people can learn about different cultures and countries.”

“I love the pose of the sea lion but above all the detail of the capture, you can even see the legs of the fly standing on the snout of the subject—crazy.” Photo by Diego Delso, CC BY-SA 4.0.

“This is one of my favorite interior shots”
