ABOUT US

Apache carries a full-time crew of 3, led by the Captain.

Pacific Expeditions is the dream realized for the owners, a husband and wife team fulfilling a lifelong dream of sailing the world and sharing that experience with others. We have been inspired by so many, now we want to help inspire others, and share these incredible experiences and adventures discovering the world. Seasoned sailors and adventure sports enthusiasts, they decided to combine their two passions and create an expedition company that could offer that experience to others.

“We’ve had so many incredible experiences, in so many amazing places, but could never find exactly what we were looking for, all together in one place - so we decided to create it ourselves”.

Area of Operations

We are kicking off the program with a world cruise, but our heart remains in the Pacific.

“There are many beautiful seas and coasts in the world--the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Northwest, Atlantic Coasts, the Strait of Magellan and the Antarctic.

But nothing compares to the scope and scale of adventure, the people, and jaw-dropping beauty of Oceania”.

OUR CAPTAIN

Gerrit is a commercially ticketed RYA/MCA Master of Yachts 200gt  (Yachtmaster Ocean) and seventh generation Schooner Captain from the Saban tradition as well as a RYA/MCA Instructor for Sail, Diesel and VHF.

He has over 100k nautical miles sailing as transatlantic new yacht delivery skipper and RYA/MCA Instructor in the Solent and Mediterranean for RYA Training Centres.

Most recently, he created and launched a Boatmaster Seamans training programme for young Caribbean trainees as Captain and Instructor onboard tallship classic Schooner RUTH (101 foot, 71 gross tons). With these trainees RUTH achieved 3rd place honours in the 2018 Antigua Classic Yacht regatta pitted against 2 racing class Schooners, nonetheless, he's most proud to be the first vessel bringing 40 tons of Hurricane IRMA relief supplies to Anguilla in 2017.

While Vice President of the Grenada National Trust he pioneered securing UNESCO World Heritage Site status for the Grenadines in cooperation with the Saint Vincent and Grenadines National Trust. Quite exceptional for UNESCO, he secured this status by sailing their evaluation consultants to the true hidden gems among the 52 Islands; endangered turtle nesting and natural fingerling hatchery sites as well as cultural historical sites of the Garifuna peoples on Baliceaux.

Gerrit has a wealth of management experience; he is a former restaurant and wine business owner, has run large scale government & banking software implementation projects and as General Manager of Eric Hassell & Son he was overseeing the management of the offshore Barbados marine drilling program for Deepwater Pathfinder.

Gerrit has two kids, an Olympian daughter in high jump (RIO 2016) and a son, PhD final year candidate in Aerospace Engineering.

His soulmate in all things and sailing is First Mate Liesbeth.
